Special Red, an installation of mixed media at chashama, 325 West Broadway, is an oasis of a surreal world of free associations. In the magical setting of fuchsia sands, our imagination leads us on a journey to the land of cast sculpture where form and function fall into traps, revealing the frames of strangeness in which we search for a mental refuge – an invitation to the crossroads of the saturnalia of our dreams and the bitter sweetness of our memories. Victoria Calabro, the artist behind this unique journey, creates surreal landscapes where our minds unravel the mysterious work of our imagination. Reinforced with a visual and conceptual contrast of materials, Special Red enforces abstract dynamics of surrealism in a way that awakens our subconscious.
